La Paz, 11 de diciembre (RCM).- El medio especializado EarthSky anunció que la lluvia de las gemínidas alcanzará su punto máximo de visualización en la noche del miércoles al jueves, por lo que los aficionados a la astronomía tendrán la oportunidad de observar este sorprendente evento celeste.
La Tierra se desplaza a través de múltiples nubes de escombros de cometas polvorientos, y es en esos periodos cuando aparece una mayor cantidad de meteoros en el cielo nocturno. Una vez que estos fragmentos de roca y metal entran en contacto con la atmósfera terrestre, el aire que los rodea se calienta, lo que origina un brillante resplandor que es visible desde la superficie de nuestro planeta.
Asimismo, la NASA sugirió que la mejor manera de visualizar las gemínidas es desde un lugar oscuro y alejado de las ciudades. Además, indicó que, este año, la velocidad en las zonas rurales puede ser superior a uno por minuto, con una mínima interferencia de la luz de la Luna. «La mayoría de los meteoros parecen incoloros o blancos, sin embargo, las gemínidas aparecen con un tono verdoso. ¡Son meteoritos bonitos!», precisó el director de la Oficina de Medio Ambiente de Meteoroides en el Centro Marshall de Vuelos Espaciales de la NASA, Bill Cooke.
