El secretario de Estado de Estados Unidos, Antony Blinken, llega este martes 2 de abril a la capital francesa, donde sostendrá un encuentro con el presidente Emmanuel Macron. Ambos tienen previsto discutir acerca de los conflictos en curso en Ucrania y la Franja de Gaza. Washington y París son dos de los gobiernos que encabezan el respaldo de Occidente a Kiev frente a la invasión de Moscú, que inició hace más de dos años. Frente a la guerra en suelo gazatí, las partes coinciden en el llamado a la entrega de ayuda humanitaria, pero París insiste en un alto al fuego permanente y no provisional, como ha respaldado la Administración de Joe Biden.
El máximo representante de la diplomacia estadounidense, Antony Blinken, arriba a Francia con las guerras en Ucrania y Gaza como parte fundamental de la visita oficial.
Estados Unidos es el mayor apoyo en armas a Ucrania. Desde el inicio de la guerra y hasta enero de 2024, Estados Unidos ha entregado más de 75.000 millones de dólares a Ucrania. De ellos, más de 44.000 millones de dólares destinados a asistencia militar.
Pero un nuevo paquete de asistencia por 60.000 millones de dólares se mantiene estancado en el Congreso.
Francia, por su parte, se encuentra entre los principales proveedores militares de Ucrania, que encara una escasez crítica de equipos militares y tropas, al tiempo que frena una avalancha de ataques rusos.
Blinken se reunirá con Macron para discutir las crecientes crisis internacionales. Además, del encuentro con el mandatario, el secretario de EE. UU. sostendrá una reunión con el ministro de Asuntos Exteriores, Stéphane Sejourne, confirmó el Palacio del Elíseo a la agencia de noticias AFP.
Esta visita oficial llega después de que el pasado febrero París celebrará una conferencia internacional, en un intento por conseguir apoyo financiero y militar para la nación invadida por las tropas rusas. Los resultados serán revisados por Blinken y los líderes franceses en este encuentro, adelantaron las mismas fuentes.
Ambas partes ambicionan una «intensificación» del apoyo a Ucrania, afirmó un miembro del entorno de Sejourne.
Asimismo, en una visita simbólica, Blinken acompañaría al ministro de las Fuerzas Armadas de Francia, Sebastien Lecornu, a una fábrica cerca de París del grupo de defensa franco-alemán KNDS, que produce armas de artillería que se utilizan en Ucrania.
