La Paz, 25 de julio (RCM).- El Hospital del Niño de Cochabamba informó que un bebé de un mes de nacido se encuentra internado en la Unidad de Terapia Intensiva (UTI) por intoxicación, ya que sus padres le dieron cuatro biberones con manzanilla y muña para tratar de mejorar su respiración.
Del mismo modo, el director del Hospital, Raúl Copana, explicó que el menor se ha intoxicado por el consumo inadecuado de los mates, por lo que sufre de vómitos, tos y dificultad para respirar. Anteriormente, el menor tenía un cuadro de neumonía y ahora su cuadro se complicó debido a dichas infusiones.
La autoridad médica lamentó que los casos de “intoxicación folclórica” por el uso de compuestos naturales o mates son frecuentes en niños y adultos, tras resaltar que la gente desconoce sobre las dosis y la administración correcta de las mismas. Copana recomendó a la población que usen infusiones con previa supervisión médica y recordó que los menores de edad son más susceptibles a ser intoxicados por dichas preparaciones.
